The Goals of the Moccasin Lake Raptor Sanctuary:
• Provide permanent care for 13 species of raptors at Moccasin Lake Nature Park.
• Offer sanctuary to more than 26 birds of prey, including bald eagles and peregrine falcons.
• Manage urban osprey nesting platforms throughout Pinellas County.
• Rescue wild birds that have been injured.
Moccasin Lake Nature Park
You might also meet several birds and volunteers during your visit. The volunteers provide guests with interesting information about the bird’s history, their rehabilitation, as well as what they can expect in their future prospects for release back into nature. This is such a wonderful way to interact with birds of prey, and really makes the learning come alive for children! For many of these birds, this is their permanent home. And the volunteers provide loving care to these creatures, while also educating the public on the best ways to protect and care for them in the wild.
The Park for the Community
There’s so much to love at this hidden gem in Clearwater. From the playground, nature center, and other amenities that serve families well. It also provides space for community members who want togetherness without having too many distractions or risks associated with public areas like streets where cars might speed by frequently making it unsafe for children playing outdoors alone.
A Hidden Gem for Clearwater Residents and Visitors
As a parent, you have to make sure your kids are well-fed and happy. If they love the playground more than their bed at home, then take them there! During summer months it can get really intense so try coming early or later in the afternoon where there’s plenty of shade available all day long. For cooler temperatures pack something tasty for lunch like peanut butter sandwiches on whole wheat bread with some fresh fruit thrown into an insulated bag alongside water bottles because staying hydrated is key when spending time outside.
